What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is the treatment of the musculoskeletal system by manual therapy including soft tissue therapy muscle energy technique, joint mobilisation and joint manipulation.

Osteopathy is based on four principles,the body is a unit,structure governs function, the body has its own self healing and self regulating mechanisms and treatment is based upon these three principles.

The beauty of Osteopathy is that treatment is tailored to each individual patient using either gentle or direct techniques or a mix of both.

Australian osteopaths are university trained for five years.

Do I need a referral for an Osteopathy appointment?

You do not need a referral from a GP or specialist to see an osteopath.

However, you may be entitled to a Medicare rebate treatment plan through your GP, just check with your GP for eligibility.

What happens during a treatment?

Your history will be taken. You'll be given a physical assessment and then treatment will commence. You will have the opportunity to ask the osteopath questions during your treatment and also in email following the treatment if required

You may be asked to get into a robe to allow access for the soft tissue massage and also to make you more comfortable during the treatment.

The osteopath may prescribe exercises to you if required.

Total treatment time is 20 minutes then our receptionist will process your payment and rebook you another appointment if required.

It is beneficial for you to wear loose fitting clothing to make sure that you are comfortable during your treatment.

Will the osteopath manipulate or crack my joints? 

Joint manipulation or HVLA (high velocity low altitude thrust brackets) is safe to do so by a qualified and trained osteopath.

Joint manipulation will only be performed when deemed appropriate and safe to do so by your osteopath. 

How much will my treatment cost?

Appointment type costs vary please refer to our fee schedule on our website.

Do I need to bring my x-rays CT scans or MRI reports and images into the Clinic to my appointment?

It is advisable to bring your scans and reports to the osteopath for your appointment. Your Osteopath will read your report and explain the  findings to you.

How many times do I have to see the osteopath during my treatment course?

Depending on your condition, the chronicity of your condition, and how you respond to treatment will determine how many appointments you will need.

Your presentation may resolve after one or two treatments however it is always advisable to get regular maintenance treatment. The osteopath will advise you how many treatments you will need moving forward.

Will I be sore or experience joint pain following my treatment?

Some joint tenderness, muscle soreness or aching may be experienced for up to 72 hours following your treatment, please be aware this is completely normal and it is just your body responding to the treatment.

Do I need to fill out any paperwork before the appointment?

When you book your initial appointment you will be sent an email and in that email is a Patient questionnaire for you to fill out prior to your appointment. There is also a consent to Allied healthcare form to fill out prior to your appointment.

You can submit the patient  questionnaire and the consent to allied healthcare form by clicking on each link in your booking confirmation email. 

Can the osteopath prescribe medication?

No, your osteopath cannot prescribe you medication, this needs to be done through your regular GP. 

What services does Rewind Osteopathic and Massage Clinic provide?

Rewind osteopathic and Massage Clinic provides osteopathic consultations, remedial massage therapy, deep tissue massage therapy, relaxation massage therapy, TMJ and baccal  therapy and lymphatic massage therapy.

Are there any products for sale?

Yes, we stock magnesium powder, Ashwagandha tablets, Zen herbal Liniment spray, pain away, Archie's thongs, noise, cancelling earbuds and foam rollers. 

Can I use my private health card? 

Yes you can, we accept all private health funds for Osteopathy and remedial massages and we offer on the spot rebates with our HICCAPS terminals. 

Your private health app on your phone can also be used on our terminals. 

I can't make it to my appointment, what do I need to do?

If you can't make it to your appointment, simply call our reception and we'll organise everything for you to reschedule your appointment.

We require minimum 6 hours notice of cancellation prior to your appointment. 

If you do not arrive for your  appointment or fail to give the required notice, you will be charged a late cancellation fee of $50 for an osteopathy appointment and $100 dollars for a massage appointment.

What are the opening hours?

We are open from 8 am to 8 pm Monday through Saturday and 9am to 4 pm on Sunday. 

Am I eligible for a chronic disease management care plan from my GP?

If you meet the  eligibility requirements from your GP, yes you are eligible for up to 5 partially Medicare rebated visits  per year. You can ask your GP about your eligibility. 

What is the out-of-pocket expense for a partially rebated Medicare care plan visit? 

Medicare Will rebate you $63.40 per visit and you'll be out of pocket $86.60 for your initial appointment and $61.60 for a return visit.

What should I bring to my Osteopathy appointment?

Please bring your scans or reports to your appointment and your private health card or Medicare card. 

Your Medicare card is required for chronic disease management plan appointments. Credit cards cannot be used for Medicare rebates on the spot. It must be a debit card.

The good news is, we can rebate your Medicare payment on the spot for you. 

You will need to bring your care plan referral from your GP to the appointment. 

Do I have to have a massage before my osteopathy appointment?

Our massage therapists are specifically trained for osteopathic treatment and it is highly recommended to do so before your appointment. This is part of your Osteopathy treatment, if you wish to miss the massage  part of the Osteopathy treatment that is fine, just let us know prior to your appointment and we will make a note on your file.

Can I talk to Mat the osteopath or Ginie in person?

Absolutely, you'll have plenty of opportunity to talk with Mat and Ginie during and after your appointment. 

However, if you don't feel like talking during your appointment, simply let us know. 

If I am an acute pain, can I please be put on the cancellation list?

Of course, it is simply a matter of calling the Clinic to be put on a cancellation list and we will do our very best to secure you an appointment on the day. 

What happens once I have booked my Osteopathy or Massage appointment? 

At the time of booking your appointment, you will receive a booking confirmation email with instructions before your appointment. 

In your booking confirmation email you receive instructions to fill out your patient questionnaire prior to your appointment and also to fill out your consent allied healthcare form prior to the appointment. 

You can cancel your booking within the booking confirmation email just search for cancel appointment, you will also get a text message reminder the day before your appointment. 

Can I see Mat the osteopath for an appointment after hours or a late appointment?

Yes you can, it's simply a matter of calling the clinic to see availability and if no appointment with Mat is available, he will do his very best to see you.

Does Mat the osteopath have emergency appointments? 

Yes, we reserve one or two emergency appointments throughout the day and at the end of the day for people in acute pain. 

What is the difference between an osteopath, physiotherapist and a chiropractor?

Generally speaking, osteopaths  

use hands on manual therapy to restore normal function of the body. This is done through a wide variety of techniques. There is a small crossover between Osteopathy, chiropractic and physiotherapy in terms of joint manipulation and exercise prescription.

Keep in mind that all practitioners have their own style of treatment and that goes for osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapist. Mat the osteopath is a structural osteopath and focuses on improving your joints range of motion, decreasing tight muscle tissue and decreasing pain levels and improving your function. 

How much is an initial Osteopathy appointment and return appointment cost? 

An initial Osteopathy appointment and return appointment varies in fees,please refer to our fee schedule on our website. 

Do you accept DVA patients? 

At this stage we do not offer DVA appointments. 

Do you provide insurance and WorkCover claim appointments?

No, we do not provide insurance claims or WorkCover claims appointments.

Do you accept NDIS patients?

No, we are not affiliated with NDIS.

Do you provide discounts to pensioners or students?

Yes, please refer to our fee schedule on our website.

Does Mat the osteopath see kids? 

Yes Mat sees kids from 6 years onwards. 

What are some common things that Mat the osteopath treats? 

Mat the osteopath commonly sees patients with headaches, jaw pain or TMJ pain, knee pain, neck pain, lower back pain, disc injuries and sciatica, thoracic spine pain, posture related issues, ankle sprains, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, shoulder pain, joint sprains and muscle strains. 

Do you offer dry needling or acupuncture?

No, we do not offer dry needling or acupuncture.

Do do you offer pregnancy massage?

Yes, pregnancy massage is offered as a service here, we have specially designed economic pillows for you to have a comfortable massage while pregnant at all stages of your pregnancy. 

Does Mat treat pregnant women?

Yes, Mat treats pregnant women in the first trimester of pregnancy. Following the first trimester Mat will refer to a colleague for further care. 

Can I see Mat the osteopath following a cortisone injection?

Yes, you can see Matt following a Cortisone injection, it is recommended to rest for 2 to 3 days following a cortisone  injection before visiting Mat. 

Can I see Mat before or after I have had surgery. 

Depending on your condition and what surgery you are booked in for, Mat will decide if he can see you before and how long after surgery and will let you know accordingly. 

Where can I park at the clinic?

We have curb street parking in front of the clinic and opposite the clinic or along Snowdon street. 

What is the address of the clinic? 

We are located at 4 Snowdon street just off Chapman road. 

Can I bring my child or dog to my appointment? 

Yes you can bring your child or dog to the clinic, we are a pet friendly clinic.

If I ride my bike to the clinic, where can I leave my bike? 

We have a bike rack at the front of the clinic for your convenience that you can lock your bike in.

What if I am running late for my appointment? 

We are mostly always on time with our appointments, so please call ahead of time or please reschedule. 

If you are 5 minutes late we will try to accommodate however you will miss out on part of your massage time, if you are 10 minutes late you will miss out on your massage.

What if I do not have an email for the booking confirmation email instructions? 

That's fine, please ensure you arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time so you can fill out your patient questionnaire in our waiting room. 

The patient questionnaire is in a black folder on the right wall in front of you as you walk into the clinic, please take one and have a seat in our waiting room to fill it out before your appointment.

What happens if I leave an item at the clinic?

Expect a call to let you know we have your item, although this is not always guaranteed we always do our best to get your belongings back to you.

What kind of massage do you offer as a service? 

We offer Remedial massage, Deep Tissue massage, lymphatic massage, relaxation massage, pregnancy massage and TMJ and Buccal therapy.

What if prefer a female practitioner? 

Our Remedial massage therapist, Relaxation massage therapist, Lymphatic massage therapist TMJ and Buccal therapist are females. 

Mat's colleague Louise is a female osteopath. 

So you will be spoilt for choice! 

What is fascia? 

Fascia is a fascinating thin and tough layer of fibrous connective tissue that wraps around our muscles, bones, organs and nerves in your body! 

Do you have wheelchair access? 

Yes we do. When booking your appointment please mention it to our receptionist. Thank you.

I am at the front clinic door but it's locked, what should I do? 

Firstly, ensure that you have arrived on the correct date and time, if so wait until your appoint time at our clinic entrance door and knock gently, as we may be engaged with another patient but we will not be far away to take you through. 

Do you have sauna and ice bath appointments? 

Our sauna and ice bath are currently closed. 

I would like to swap my appointment with a friend, family member or my partner, is this possible? 

Yes you can. Please call reception to swap your appointment. 

How much do I get back from my private health fund for osteopathy and remedial massage appointments? 

As all private health funds vary and depend on your level of cover, we can not give you an exact figure. However rebates are between 20 to 100 dollars across all funds.

We can provide you with a rebate quote when you are in the clinic. 

How many chronic disease management care plan visits from Medicare can I get per year? 

You can receive up to 5 partially rebated Medicare visits to be used in 1 year.

Your GP will issue you with a care plan if you are eligible. Please bring your care plan from your GP to your osteopathy appointment. 

Can I use a chronic disease management care plan from Medicare for massage appointments? 

No you can't, chronic disease management care plans are to be used with allied health practitioners only. 

Do you accept American Express? 

Yes we do accept American Express. 

Does Mat the osteopath work weekends? 

Yes, by request only. 

Can I go to the gym after my osteopathy appointment? 

Depending on your presentation Mat may advise to skip the gym to give you the best chance for your body to respond to the treatment. 

Each presentation will require a different post treatment activity level. Mat will inform you. 

Can I drive to Perth or drive a long distance straight after treatment? 

It is not recommended, however if it can't be avoided we recommended regular breaks and lumbar support. 

Does Mat the osteopath prescribe exercises? 

When indicated, yes Mat will give you and show you exercises to help you recover and function at your best. 

Do I need an MRI or Xrays or CT scans  before my osteopathy appointment? 

No, you do not. 

However MRI may be required sometimes, Mat will advise you if needed. 

Can Mat the osteopath refer me for scans? 

Yes, when indicated Mat the osteopath can refer you for imaging including X Rays, ultrasound or CT.

Expect out of pocket expenses but check with the imaging clinic you are booked in with. 

Can Mat the osteopath access my images and reports? 

Yes he can and will go over the findings with you during your appointment or over a phone call. 

Can I get a sick certificate for work from Mat the osteopath? 

Yes he can at his discretion. 

Should I take analgesics or anti inflammatory medication prior to my osteopathy appointment? 

It is not advisable as this can mask your symptoms. 

After treatment Mat may recommend the use of non steroidal anti inflammatory medication and/ or analgesics to promote tissue healing and recovery. 

How long will my osteopathy appointment go for? 

20 minutes. 

I am not feeling well and have cold and flu like symptoms, should I come to my appointment? 

We would appreciate if you call to reschedule. 

This is done out of respect for other patients and staff. Thank you. 

Does Mat the osteopath perform heavy and direct manipulation techniques or gentle techniques? 

Mat will tailor your osteopathic treatment to exactly what you need, Mat may perform a HVLA  ( high - velocity- low - amplitude) thrust to one of more of your joints in a precise manner, or use a gentle and indirect technique. 

If you do not like manipulation techniques please let Mat know prior to treatment and he will cater to you. 

Would I benefit more from an osteopathy treatment or a massage? 

That is dependent on your preference. Some of our patients alternate between osteopathy and massage appointments as part of their program. 

We recommend speaking with Mat or Ginie to fully understand your presentation and needs if you are unsure. 

How long do I need to wait to see Mat following an operation? 

Please ask your surgeon a suitable time frame to seek osteopathic care as each case is different depending on the individual. 

Can I be in a seated position during my appointment if I am too sore to lay down on the treatment table? 

Of course, Mat is able to perform his techniques in different positions if you are uncomfortable on the table in anyway. 

Osteopathy and massage can be performed while you are sidelying, supine( laying down facing upward, prone( laying face down, or seated. 

Can I book a massage for 30 minutes, 1 hour, 1.5 or 2 hours.

Absolutely, it is just a matter of requesting it while you book your appointment. 

How long has Mat been practicing as an osteopath? 

Mat has been an osteopath since 2017.

Mat completed his Bachelor of Clinical Science majoring in human structure and function and then went on to complete a Masters of Osteopathic Medicine at Southern Cross University in Lismore, New South Wales 

Does Louise the osteopath still work at Rewind Osteopathic and Massage Clinic? 

Yes Louise is practicing at Rewind Osteopathic and Massage Clinic and specialises in paediatrics and pregnant women. 

I want to make an appointment with Louise the osteopath, how can I do this? 

We will contact Louise to reach out to you to make an appointment. 

Can I book a massage straight after my osteopathy appointment? 

Yes you can. However this is usually not required and it's best to let your body adjust to the osteopathy appointment. 

Booking a massage before the osteopathy appointment is definitely recommended though. 

Will I receive a text message reminder the day before my appointment? 

Yes you will to the contact number we have for you on our system. 

Do I get a booking confirmation email or text message? 

Once your appointment is booked you will receive a booking confirmation email to the email we have on file for you.

You will receive a no show to appointment fee of 50 dollars.

This is done of course at our discretion given the circumstances.

My child has an upcoming appointment and is under 16 years of age should someone come to the appointment with them? 

Yes, we require either you as the parent or a family member present at the appointment.
